Fans order McDonald’s on holiday and ask if dish is ‘legal’
It’s always fascinating to discover what chain restaurants offer overseas and we’re all tempted by an airport McDonald’s before jetting home, hoping to sample something entirely different from their menu.
McDonald’s offerings differ dramatically between nations, with certain locations providing distinctive options, such as France’s Croque McDo and the Netherlands’ McKroket.
Nevertheless, one particular dish has infuriated the internet and achieved viral status due to its sheer boldness – the McSpaghetti.
This creation is exclusively available in the Philippines and Indonesia and basically consists of a small cardboard container filled with spaghetti topped with sweet tomato sauce, sliced hot dogs, and cheese.
Based on TikTok footage, customers can purchase a McSpaghetti meal including chips and a beverage for 152 Philippine pesos, equivalent to approximately £1.98, reports the Mirror.
Additionally, a McSpaghetti Happy Meal costs 156 Philippine pesos, according to one video.
A TikTok user shared footage of himself sampling the McSpaghetti and highlighted the container’s dimensions, remarking: “This is only like four bites.”
Yet, he went on to comment about the meal: “That’s not bad, I’m not going to say it’s Olive Garden level, but it’s not bad … It’s not very expensive and it’s basically a side portion.”
He concluded: “It’s a pretty good spaghetti, for McDonald’s it’s pretty good.”
Another social media user who sampled the McSpaghetti remarked: “It’s so little, a little baby spaghetti.”
She added: “It’s a little bit sweet … it’s not terrible but it’s not great either.”
However, one diner was far from impressed, declaring: “I’m not even joking, they prepared this in about 30 seconds. Why did I buy this?” After tasting the pasta, he exclaimed: “Oh mate, this is grim. It’s cold … I’m not even going to bother eating the rest of that, it makes me want to throw up.”
Someone else concurred, claiming that the meal “offended” them: “Nonna’s rolling in her grave AND her pasta dough. Am I offended? Absolutely. Did I eat it? Also yes.”
One Italian patron shared his verdict on the dish, simply stating: “I don’t know what to say ..”
He grimaced, and confirmed in the comment section it was not good.
A commenter wondered if the dish was “legal” whilst another revealed that they had also sampled it and it was the “worst” spaghetti they had consumed. One TikTok user declared “it’s very artificial”, whilst another claimed the meat in it resembled “processed sausages”.
Another McDonald’s offering which has attracted attention online is the McAloo Tikki and is available in India. Beef isn’t served in Indian McDonald’s restaurants, so this vegetarian burger features a spiced potato and pea patty with tamarind-style sauce, onions, and tomatoes.
In the Netherlands, McDonald’s offers a unique burger known as the McKroket. This distinctive dish features a deep-fried croquette patty served on a classic burger bun with mustard.
Both meat and vegetarian versions are available in Dutch outlets.
