Make orange shortbread which is the ultimate treat – recipe

Made with just four ingredients, this is a great recipe to make with children over the festive break.

The orange shortbread recipe comes from Miele and is a twist on the classic sweet treat.

It only requires six ingredients and four simple steps to make, perfect for a quick bake.

The zest of the orange brings out the flavour of the biscuit and will become a firm favourite in the household.

Bakers can put decorations on the shortbread if they wish to add an extra festive feel to the food dish.

Method:

Firstly, place the flour, icing sugar and orange zest in a large bowl. Rub in the butter to form a breadcrumb like mixture, then gather together into a soft dough. Form into a large rectangular shape, wrap in cling film and chill in a refrigerator for one hour.

Next, roll out to one centimeter thick and use a circular cutter of your choice.

Select the fan setting at 160°C on the oven and cook the biscuits for 25 minutes until lightly golden.

While the shortbread is cooking in a food processor, blitz together the bay leaves and sugar. Coat the biscuits in the sugar when they are still warm and then leave to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
